Bill takes the fight out of divorces

If you are a parent or grandparent who has lost custody of your children in divorce, you will want to support House File 322, a bill that encourages shared parenting following divorce or separation.

This bill changes family law in Minnesota so that both parents will be able to continue to support the children, financially, emotionally and spiritually, just as they did during the marriage.

Current law encourages one parent to seek full custody, in what many call a winner-take-all system. The winning parent generally gets the house, the children and financial support for the children. The loser gets the apartment, no financial support and the kids every other weekend. But the real losers in the current system are the children, who lose the close contact and support from a parent.

Ask your Minnesota legislators to support HF322, a bill that presumes that children should continue to have both parents fully involved in their lives following divorce or separation.
