Weekend Planner: There’s plenty to do in A.L. this weekend

Following is a schedule of the events in Albert Lea and around Freeborn County scheduled for this weekend:

Friday

• Join the Pelican Breeze II at 6 p.m. for a pizza cruise. Call 507-383-2630 by 4 p.m. for reservations.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “Gypsy” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Cost is $17 for adults and $14 for students.

• Riverland Community College’s Summerset Theatre presents “Inherit the Wind” at 7:30 p.m. at the Frank W. Bridges Theatre at Riverland’s Austin campus. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the box office or at The Coffee House on Main in Austin.

• Enjoy a free showing of the movie “MegaMind” at 8:30 p.m. at the Edgewater Park Bandshell. The event is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea Family Y and Albert Lea Parks and Recreation.

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis will hold a flapjack breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s. Cost is $7.

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. and goes until noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.

• The 4-H dog agility show will be held at 9 a.m. in the 4-H building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

• The “Get Your Pink On” golf tournament will take place all day at the Oakview Golf Course in Freeborn. Proceeds from the event go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There will be a silent auction and door prizes.

• Try Qigong for free as part of the Sample Saturday Series at 10 a.m. in Edgewater Park.

• The Pelican Breeze II will depart from the dock at 4 p.m. The cruise is $10 and no reservations are required. If the cruise is canceled there will be a sign with that notification.

Sunday

• A Korean War era recognition breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion, hosted by the American Legion. Cost is $7, and children under 6 are free; $1 from each door charge goes to church youth activity groups. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruit, juice and coffee.

• The Pelican Breeze II will depart from the dock at 1:30 p.m. The cruise is $10 and no reservations are required. If the cruise is canceled there will be a sign with that notification.
