Monarch tagging classes offered at Hormel Nature Center

Published 9:38 am Monday, August 15, 2011

The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center in Austin will be holding Monarch tagging classes from 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 19 and 26.

Monarch butterflies are flying through the region on their way to California and Mexico. Kids will have a chance to learn about the butterflies and tag them as part of a large-scale research project.

Monarchs born after Aug. 15 in this latitude are generally considered migratory. The Nature Center will have tags to tag the individual Monarchs. Students in this class will be certified to sign out tags for tagging. There are two classes open to children ages 10, 11 and 12 for our Monarch Tagging classes.
