Welcome to the first week of bullying.

As many of you know, bullying happens quite a bit during the school year. It happens online, in the classroom, in the hallways and on the buses.

It is sad, but it is the truth.

The Albert Lea Tribune ran a series of articles last school year on bullying written by reporter Kelli Lageson. Those article links are listed with this column.

We at the Tribune want to do anything we can to help stop bullying. We want to work with the school superintendents and teachers to identify bullying and reach out to the children who are being bullied.

Over the course of this school year, we still will identify and look for stories that help our readers understand the significant impact of bullying. We will ask parents, teachers and superintendents to let us know what is being done or not done at all of the area schools to help prevent bullying.

Our children are important and bullying needs the light of media to keep shining on it to expose it for what it is — undeniably wrong.

Bullying is something that is real and we need to make sure that we have a dialogue between the parents, kids and schools to help solve it.
