Here are highlights in history for Dec. 5, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — A letter to the editor from a Lake Mills, Iowa, resident said winter driving conditions on the roads in that state were better. He or she wrote that this became very apparent on U.S. Highway 69 at Emmons and on north while driving to Albert Lea.

1981 — Eugene Pfeifer of Austin, a flight student of Customaire Aviation, was uninjured when the aircraft he was piloting may have hit ice and flipped over at the Albert Lea Airport.
