Students were great guestsPublished 10:14am Wednesday, April 11, 2012
Last week, Sen. Dan Sparks and I had the pleasure of speaking to more than 60 senior advanced-placement government students from Jim Haney’s class at Albert Lea High School as they visited the State Capitol.
What a well mannered and informed group!
During our visit, these kids asked a number of great questions, from infrastructure to job creation to the marriage amendment. They were also able to take part in a demonstration of the video pull tab technology that could potentially be used to help fund a Vikings stadium and offered a good number of questions to those giving the presentation as well.
The group also sat in on Transportation and Health and Human Services Committee meetings, had a nice tour of the Capitol, and even got to watch a group of protestors. To say they saw democracy in action would be an understatement.
I couldn’t have been more proud that these young men and women were so engaged in the political process. Their teachers and parents have done an outstanding job preparing these kids for the future, and it was a joy to visit with them in St. Paul.
