A 4-year-old girl was found safe Tuesday night in a cornfield in rural Leland, Iowa, after she was reportedly missing for almost six hours.slid
According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the girl was reported missing to authorities at 5:43 p.m. She was believed to be in a cornfield near 15521 380th St., in rural Leland.
The Sheriff’s Office stated a “massive search effort” ensued, including more than 100 first responders and volunteers from the public.
She was found by a search team at 11:28 p.m.
Responding agencies included the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Forest City Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Forest City Fire Department, Forest City Ambulance, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson Fire Department, Lake Mills Fire Department, Garner Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol Air Wing, Mercy Air Med and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
Winnebago County Sheriff Douglas Jenson thanked everyone who participated in the search.
