NORTHWOOD, Iowa — A wild pitch ended a tie game on Thursday as the Northwood-Kensett baseball team defeated Lake Mills 8-7.

Lake Mills’ Lincoln Boehmer takes off for first base in the fop of the fifth on Thursday in Northwood.

The Vikings had earned a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth and kept it until the Bulldogs lit up in the top of the seventh and scored four runs to make for a tie game 7-7.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs were looking for one more to make the game go into an extra inning.

Instead of an out, the Vikings’ Aaron Peterson sped from third base and slid into home while the Bulldogs catcher fumbled with the ball.

Peterson’s run was all the Vikings needed to take back its lead and end the game.

The Vikings play St. Ansgar tonight at home at 7:30 p.m. and Lake Mills travels to Osage tonight for a 5:45 p.m. game.
