The Freemond Madson Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary met June 11 at the American Legion hall with President Eunice Hatleli presiding.

Reports were read by Secretary Lynda Verenedahl and Treasurer Bevenly Boone and were accepted by the group.

Other reports were read and discussed including the membership bulletin which mentioned that the auxiliary has a cancer grant for its continuous members of at least one whole year. There are a few of our members for 2012 and the group doesn’t want its members to lose this benefit.

The group has several members who have collected up to $500 for this benefit. Boone is still accepting dues for 2012. The new 2013 year will soon be here and dues are $13. There will be a noon luncheon for 2013 paid up members tentatively set for August. Date to come later.

The group again received its regular request from REACT to bake cookies for the Fourth of July safety break event at the Interstate 35 rest stop.

The group planned to bake cookies at 9 a.m. today at the Moose Club who generously will let the group use their kitchen. The group has no kitchen, so the project is a joint venture. If there are any women who would like to help the group they are always welcome.

The Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Albert Lea is hosting its Freedom Festival Saturday at Edgewater Park. The group plans to attend to inform people of the purpose and reason for the Foreign Wars Auxiliary. The public is invited to the event and can visit the VFW table for more information.

Marcia Petersen served lunch, and Ruby Fredrickson received the door fringe. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. July 9 at the Legion.
