A 46-year-old Albert Lea woman was charged in Freeborn County District Court Wednesday with allegedly stabbing her boyfriend during an altercation on Tuesday.defeat
Machelle Yvonne Rowand faces one count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony, after the alleged incident, which took place at 304 W. College St.
According to court documents, Rowand reportedly stabbed the man after the two had been drinking beer. Reports stated Rowand was allegedly complaining about needing the Internet to talk to her family, but her boyfriend told her he could not afford it.
The alleged victim told police Rowand reportedly attempted to stab him multiple times with a small-bladed knife and succeeded in stabbing him in the wrist and swiping him on the shoulder. She also allegedly stabbed the couch several times.
The knife was found on a coffee table near the couch in the house.
Court documents state Rowand allegedly admitted to stabbing her boyfriend without any prompting or questioning when an officer first arrived at the house.
She later started talking about prior domestic disputes she has had with her boyfriend.
Rowand appeared before Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning on the charge Tuesday. Leuning ordered she pay bail of $15,000 with conditions or $50,000 without conditions.
Conditions included not
using alcohol or controlled substances, not contact the alleged victim, not possessing alcohol or drugs, not using or possessing firearms or dangerous weapons and submitting to chemical testing, among others.
She is next scheduled to appear July 30.
