American labor made better stuff

Published 9:58am Thursday, August 16, 2012

I would like to comment on the letter written by Don Jacobson stating we lost our jobs because of taxes.

Sir! The only reason was cheaper labor, and, therefore, we no longer have as nice of clothes. They don’t fit and aren’t durable or becoming. If you notice American people are no longer as nicely dressed and these cheaper-made clothes have become high priced, also.

So it was proven American workers were worth the better wages they were receiving. I hope we can get some of those jobs back soon.

P.S.: The reason Barack Obama had to take from Social Security is he had to pay some of the high high debt this country had acquired, and that’s the only way he could find some money. Do I agree with this? No! Social Security was paid by us for our retirement years.

I suppose the high cost of doing business like taxes, labor, labor relations, insurance plans, retirement plans, administration of these complex plans, governmental regulations, and even the nasty ability to automate production along with the technology explosion had little impact in the decline of jobs the textile industry.

Sooo…We blame cheap labor somewhere else for our decline maybe we should look at ourselves could it be we failed to adapt to a ever changing business environment or did we legislate, regulate, and tax the jobs away?
