Hugh O’Byrne’s Aug. 16 letter to the editor is right on. Something that has always bothered me is when the City Council gave away its control of the port authority and created the Albert Lea Economic Development Agency. All that is happening now is that ALEDA is spending taxpayer’s money on large salaries, roads and buildings, but doing nothing at the same time. I’m for the Albert Lea City Council taking back the port authority. It was working a lot better when it was run by the council and city manager. Just look at Austin’s port authority and its success with retail businesses.
