Woman stabbed, son in custodyPublished 2:05pm Friday, August 24, 2012
LERDAL — A 13-year-old boy is being held in custody this weekend in connection with the stabbing of his mother Friday afternoon.
According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, the teenager is the only person of interest in the stabbing, which reportedly took place at 79225 255th St., west of Lerdal in Riceland Township.
Neither the teenager nor his mother’s names have been released.
Patrol Sgt. Tim Bennett with the Sheriff’s Office said the stabbing was not life-threatening, but he could not comment further on where or how many stabbings the mother sustained.
Authorities were alerted to the incident after dispatchers received a call at about 1 p.m. Friday from the mother. She reported she had been allegedly stabbed by her son and was driving herself to the emergency room at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
Her son was reportedly still at the house.
Deputies responded to the residence and found the teenager on the front porch. He reportedly cooperated with authorities and was arrested.
Two knives and a shotgun were also confiscated.
Bennett said the incident remains under investigation, and he could not comment on what might have caused the alleged altercation.
Authorities have not released the type of knife used.
More information may be released Monday when the teenager is expected to face charges in Freeborn County District Court.
