Members of the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club are preparing for the 2012-13 competitive season after bringing home honors from Mankato and Rochester events earlier this year.
At the Bend of the River competition in Mankato, Zoe Heimendinger placed first in free skate elements, free skate level 3. Charley Fleek placed second in free skate elements, free skate level 1 and fourth in the free skate program event, free skate level 1. Katie Bradley placed third in the free skate program event, free skate level 2.
At Hiawathaland in Rochester, Maddie VanBeek placed first in well balanced pre-juvenile compulsory moves and fifth in well balanced pre-juvenile free skate. Ella Zelenak placed first in test track beginner compulsory moves, Kailey Christensen placed fourth in test track beginner compulsory moves, Sadie Mortenson placed fifth in test track beginner compulsory moves and fifth in test track beginner free skate. Marissa Mortenson placed eighth in test track pre-preliminary free skate and fifth in test track pre-preliminary compulsory moves, Christy Crom placed sixth in test track beginner compulsory moves, and Holly Wichmann placed sixth in preliminary compulsory spins and eighth in test track preliminary compulsory moves.
The Albert Lea Figure Skating Club will begin its season with registration on Tuesday at the Albert Lea city arena. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and new members are welcome.
The club offers several levels of lessons, which begin Sept. 10, opportunities to compete at Midwest events, and participation in its annual show which is scheduled for March 23-24.
