The best weather starts now

We grow weary of hearing other media outlets talk about Labor Day weekend as the last weekend to have fun in summer, calling it the “last hurrah” or “the last weekend of summer.”

Sure, that’s obviously due to school starting classes the day after Labor Day, but the fact is that September offers some of the best weather on the Minnesota calendar for being outside and active.

The mosquitoes aren’t around. The prairie wind has gone away. The outdoors are dry, not humid. Why are so many people ready to gather up their outdoors gear and go inside to watch the tube when the weather now is better than it was in June when people were outside all over?

After all, fall doesn’t start until Sept. 21. Kids still get Saturdays and Sundays off from school. Early fall still has great weather, and Old Man Winter is going to be here before we know it. And winter, as we all know, gives us cabin fever.

Some of the best weather starts at Labor Day. Savor it and get out.
