Dorothy Ruth Moen, 81, of rural Emmons, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline, Mo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emmons Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, in Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will take place at Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Northwood.

Dorothy Ruth Moen was born March 20, 1931, to the late James and Anne (Stene) Brua at their rural home in Worth County, Iowa. Dorothy graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1949. She was united in marriage Oct. 15, 1950, to Gene Moen at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, Northwood.

Dorothy and her husband lived on their family farm in rural Emmons their entire married lives. She worked as the bookkeeper and cabinet finishing specialist for the family construction business as well as supporting her husband with farming. She was a long time member of Emmons Lutheran Church.

Dorothy and Gene raised two daughters, Paulette and Shelly, who both went on to be pharmacists. She especially enjoyed holidays and birthdays with her children, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and their families.

Dorothy and Gene enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 United States and Europe in their 58 years of marriage. Dorothy enjoyed crafts including hardanger and rosemaling and shared her treasures with her family.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters Paulette and husband, Stan Dahlby, of Overland Park, Kan., and Shelly and husband, Patrick Brackey, of Marceline, Mo; her three grandchildren: James and wife, Heather, Dahlby, Audra and husband, Brad Gladbach, and Julie and husband, Greg Hunt; and six great-grandchildren: Megan, Madigan, Kate, Berlin, Cayden and James, Jr. In addition to her beloved family, she is survived by two brothers Ardell and wife, Alfreda, Brua, of Lake Mills, and Eldo Bura, Maryville, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene Moen and sister-in-law Geraldine Brua.
