Drug Take Back Day deemed a success

Area residents turned in more than 95 pounds of prescription drugs during the local Drug Take Back Day Sept. 29 at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

According to a news release, 60 vehicles came through the drop off.

This was the third Drug Take Back Day since November 2011 in Albert Lea.

During a similar event in April, 44 pounds of prescription drugs were turned in.

The event was sponsored through the Albert Lea Police Department, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, United Way of Freeborn County, Freeborn County Environmental Services and Freeborn County Partners in Prevention.

According to the release, more than 52 million Americans have abused prescription drugs at least once during their lifetimes.
