Meet the Athlete: Emma Behling

Q: What year are you in school?

A: Junior

 

Q: What school do you attend?

A: Albert Lea High School

 

Q: Who is your immediate family?

A: Dad, David; mom, Karen; brother, Stuart; sister, Marta

 

Q: What sports are you involved in?

A: Cross country and distance track.

 

Q: How did you get started in cross country?

A: I would stay home and read books all the time when I was younger, so my parents told me to join a sport. So, I joined in seventh grade and I grew to love it. I love running.

 

Q: What other extracurricular activities are you in? 

A: I’m in chorale, band, choir and marching band.

 

Q: Did your parents play sports when they were younger? 

A: No. I don’t think they did.

 

Q: What is your biggest sports related achievement? 

A: I ran a marathon last September. It was so amazing, it rekindled my passion for running. I finished in 4 hours, 8 minutes, 51 seconds.

 

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? 

A: Olympic runner Kara Goucher.

 

Q: What is your favorite school subject? 

A: Math. I love numbers, equations and just making numbers work.

 

Q: Who is your favorite teacher? 

A: Well, Jim Haney is my coach, so he is a good teacher and also Kevin Gentz, Brenda Nelson and Kurt Barickman. So, I would say it’s a four-way tie.

 

Q: What are your hobbies? 

A: I love to read. I love to run. I love hanging out with my friends. I love playing piano and I love playing the tuba.

 

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show? 

A: My favorite TV show is a tie between “Parks and Recreation” and “The Big Bang Theory.” My favorite movie is “V is for Vendetta.”

 

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Chocolate. Dark chocolate.
