Ray Janssen, 80, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Ray Carl Janssen will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bonnerup, as well as one hour prior to the service.

Ray Janssen passed away at his home on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012. He was 80 years old.

Ray was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa, on Aug. 2, 1932. The son of Dick and Jane (Friesenberg) Janssen, he lived in Buffalo Center until the 1950s when he moved to Albert Lea. On Jan. 17, 1958, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Carson in Albert Lea. Together they had three daughters.

Ray worked at Interstate Power Co. starting in 1957 until his retirement in 1994. He also held part-time jobs as a bailiff and at Hardware Hank. He was a member of the American Legion and the Harley Owners Group.

Ray was a loving and helpful husband and father who loved to ride his motorcycle, tinker in his shop and go out for coffee. He was a jack of all trades who could lend a helping hand no matter what the task.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Ernie, John and Bob; and sister, Christine.

Ray is survived by his wife, Marilyn Janssen of Albert Lea; daughters, Jeanne (Jim) Forman of Burnsville, Deb (Jim) Hefte of Rochester and Julie Janssen of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Michelle (Ricardo) Muggli, Holly (Scott) Petersen, Chris Forman, Caitlin (Brandon) Marcaccini, Sam Hefte, Codie Janssen and Chelsea Janssen; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Arlene Janssen and Wilhelmine Janssen; and many nieces and nephews.
