The Riverland Community College soccer team hosted Bismarck State Community College Saturday in Austin and won in overtime 3-2.

“I thought the key to the game was the increased intensity with which we played in the second half,” head coach Troy Stegenga said. “At halftime, I told our midfielders that they had to step up their transitions from defense to offense and lead the attack for our forwards, and that’s just what they did. Valentin Manzano, Dante Ortiz, Rolando Rubio, Jesse Ledesma, Fernando Garcia — all five of our sophomore midfielders played with the fire in their bellies that we need to see every game. The harder they play, the more we can dominate a game.”

With the victory, Riverland moves past .500 to five wins, four losses and zero ties.
