Jean Hummer, 80, Kiester

Jean Hummer, 80, of Kiester, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, due to complications following surgery. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Kiester. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate and interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Kiester. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Norma Jean Somage was born July 28, 1932, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Alex and Esther (Mickelson) Somage. She was united in marriage to Dean Hummer Aug. 6, 1949, in Kiester. She was a long time farm wife. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds, her pets, gardening and flowers. She liked traveling to casinos, having coffee and visiting with friends in Kiester. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, including being active in the annual bake sale at church. She loved being with her family.

Jean is survived by her children: Craig Hummer of Farmington, Debra (Ove) Oren of Truman, Ron (Linda) Hummer of Mapleton; five grandchildren: Jason and Scott Oren; Jennifer, Matthew and April Valliant; six great-grandchildren: Alicia Oren, Kendall, Cheyenne, Tiana, Zodi, Domanic; two sisters: Marvel Steinhauer and Shirley Stenseth; two sisters-in-law: Marian Hummer and Joie Somage; along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, four sisters: Alice Somage in childhood, Margaret (Agar) Olson, Lottie (Bus) Hall, Rosemary (Merlin) Stern; three brothers: Perry (Bonnie) Somage, Odean (Marvel) Somage and John Somage; brothers-in-law: Burdette Hummer, Russell (Arletta) Hummer; sister-in-law: Arlene Hummer.
