Minnesota’s Riche is Big 10 women’s player of week

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota’s Micaella Riche is the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

The conference announced the award on Monday, the first of Riche’s career. The last Minnesota winner of the award was Rachel Banham, last season on Jan. 9, 2012.

Riche averaged 24.5 points and 10 rebounds in two games in the Best Buy Classic this weekend. The 6-foot-2 junior from Gloucester, Ontario, shot 68 percent from the floor.

Riche had 29 points and 14 rebounds in a double-overtime victory over Washington State, playing 49 minutes. Then she had 20 points, six rebounds and two blocks in just 25 minutes of a win over Villanova.

The Gophers host Ohio this Saturday at Williams Arena in the Subway Classic. They will play either Maine or UNLV on Sunday.
