Twinkies maker says it is going out of business

Hostess Brands Inc., the maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and other snacks, says its going out of business after striking workers across the country crippled its ability to supply retailers with its products.

The company, which isn’t listed, said the closing would mean the loss of about 18,500 jobs.

Let’s not panic. Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Wonder bread and the rest of Hostess Brands’ oddly everlasting foods aren’t going away any time soon. Yes, Hostess is shutting down, and odds seem to favor the roughly century-old company disappearing from our corporate landscape. But before you rush out to stockpile a strategic Twinkie reserve, consider a few things. Namely, that Twinkies never die. You know full well that the snack cakes down at your corner gas station are going to outlive us all.
