Here are some of the volunteer openings in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

ARC of Freeborn County: Help cook and serve the annual soup and chili fund raiser supper on Monday at First Lutheran Church. Volunteers are needed throughout the day. Shifts include 9 a.m. to noon to prepare vegetables and stir the pots. There’s also an afternoon to 4 p.m. shift for setting tables and cooking. From 4 to 8 p.m. volunteers are needed to sell tickets and serve and bus tables. ARC welcomes you to help out.

Bell ringers: Plan now when you can help the Salvation Army raise funds ringing bells to provide gifts to make Christmas a better time for area residents. It’s a two-hour shift at Nelson’s Market Place, Shopko, Walmart or indoors at Hy-Vee. Add your name to the schedule by calling The Salvation Army at 373-5710.

Medical escort: Some frail and elderly people need company on trips to the doctor. Ride in the van with a resident from Thorne Crest Retirement Community to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea or meet the resident there and sit with that person in the waiting room. Make sure the resident gets on the van back to the nursing home after having seen the doctor.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
