Alberta Guerra, 83, Austin

Funeral services for Alberta Guerra will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Gene Stenzel and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Alberta died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Our House in Austin.

Alberta Guerra

Alberta Guerra was born Dec. 17, 1929, to Lorenzo and Elvira (Cisneros) Alvarado in Chicago. She grew up in Albert Lea and other areas in southern Minnesota. Alberta attended Delavan and Easton area schools. She was united in marriage to Guadalupe H. Guerra. Alberta worked at Land O’ Lakes for many years. After she retired she worked cleaning offices until she was 82. She enjoyed reading about history and doing puzzles. Alberta loved the outdoors. She especially loved to walk. She was well known to take her walk around the Blazing Star Trail early in the morning. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and plants since she worked for Lake Shore Greenhouse for many years.

Survivors include her son, Ryan E. Guerra, of the Twin Cities; granddaughters, Ciara and Ariana; nieces, Marina Gillard of Glenville, Daniel (Louell) Gari of San Diego, Calif., Marlene (Daryll) Baseman of Albert Lea and Patty Kristin Leibinger of Rochester; nephew, Michael (Janie) Ramirez of Wichita, Kan.; sister-in-law, Teresa Alvarado-Hernandez of Tallahassee, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Elvira; husband, Lupe Guerra; sisters, Shirley Alvarado and Consuelo Ramirez; brother, John Alvarado; brothers-in-law, Fidel Ramirez and Ben Gari; sister-in-law, Patricia Alvarado; niece and nephew, Freda Vollmer and Richard Gari; and her best friend, Anita Madrigal.
