ST. PAUL — A 7-year-old boy is OK after Good Samaritans helped rescue him from atop a moving garbage truck in St. Paul.

The boy was wearing only a T-shirt in chilly weather when he apparently ran away from school Tuesday.

David Bergstrom said he saw the boy sitting on top of the garbage truck in traffic. Bergstrom said he couldn’t get the driver’s attention, so he pulled ahead of the truck which pulled over. The truck driver got out and carried the boy down.

The boy had a runny nose but was OK. He was back in school within the hour. A St. Paul police spokesman said the boy has a mental disability and is outfitted with a GPS tracking device used to find vulnerable children or adults.
