The Lake Mills wrestling team competed at the Blue Earth Invitational on Saturday and finished in eighth place out of 11 teams.

The Bulldogs had to compete without three of their starters, Brady Schmidt, Andrew Olsen and Andy Nicholson.

“All three of the brackets those guys would have been in were ones they would have done very well in and it probably cost us around 40 to 50 points,” Bulldogs head coach Alex Brandenburg said.

Without those starters, the Bulldogs advanced just one wrestler to the final round, Noah Irons. Irons was champion at 152 pounds with a 7-0 decision.

Brandenburg was positive about the tournament despite the low finish.

“We had some ups and downs today, but I was happy to have the kids face stiff competition to see where improvements need to be made,” Brandenburg said. “It is a great tournament to go to not only because it is tough, but we get to wrestle Minnesota kids that we don’t have to worry about seeing three or four times a year.” See the Scoreboard for final round results.
