Fairy dust offset by smoke, mirrors

In a recent press conference, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney referred to Republican fiscal plan as “magic beans and fairy dust” and said, “It’s not a plan to say that we’re going to magically increase revenues through loophole closures and deduction caps.” But in 2011 President Obama said, “What we said was give us $1.2 trillion in additional revenues, which could be accomplished without hiking taxes — tax rates — but could simply be accomplished by eliminating loopholes, eliminating some deductions and engaging in a tax reform process that could have lowered rates generally while broadening the base.” Loophole and deduction reforms — the same thing from Obama in 2011 that today is described as fairy dust by Obama administration.

If the Republicans are spreading fairy dust, then Obama is doing the same while using smoke and mirrors to cover his flip-flops.
