Iowa man injured in crash

A 65-year-old Iowa man was injured Saturday morning after his car reportedly went into the ditch, rolled and then hit a tree in northern Freeborn County.

Javier Soto, of West Des Moines, Iowa, was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea after the crash, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The State Patrol stated Soto was reportedly driving northbound near milepost 22 of Interstate 35 when he lost control of his 2012 Ford Focus at 12:12 a.m. He was reportedly driving with the cruise function on when he crashed.

The report stated the road was icy at the time of the crash.

No alcohol was detected.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office detective Chuck Malepsy said the State Patrol was busy on the interstate Sunday night, but no other injury crashes were reported on the State Patrol website.
