Language wars rear ugly head

In an opinion (Aug. 9) former Freeborn County DFL Party chairwoman Rose Anderson wrote, “I think it is awful all the terrible accusations and language the Republican candidates are using against the Democrats. If they want to be our leaders and act and talk like that, it’s a disgrace to our country.” It’s too bad Rose didn’t give any examples of “terrible” accusations.

For example, if I were to claim terrible language by Democrats, I would mention the many times they have accused Republicans of being racists, bigots, haters but never once proving it. I would also mention Joe Biden’s remark, “They’re going to put y’all back in chains” (Aug. 14). By the way, how many people know that in college Michelle Obama (Robinson at the time) was a member of Third World Center, a campus group that did not allow whites? At a “black solidarity” event this group promoted, their lecturer was Manning Marable, a Marxist.

I might then mention Obama’s call for “revenge” in November and his remark “We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends” (Oct. 25, 2010). That last remark was made to a group of Latinos. If that isn’t a call for racial divisiveness, I don’t know what is.

Also I might recall Valerie Jarrett’s comment. Jarrett is Obama’s most trusted aide. Jarrett’s father-in-law Vernon Jarrett was a communist and head of youth wing of Communist Party and friend of Obama’s communist mentor, Frank Marshall Davis. Her grandfather appears in a 1944 report on un-American activities. On Nov. 4 she said, “The ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay.”

These are all curious words coming from the pinnacle of a party that touts inclusiveness, diversity and peace paths.

I am sure Rose and other Democrats find these words by top Democrats (now socialists) equally awful and disgraceful. Yes, and I am also sure pigs fly.
