Vilma Johnson, 86, Arlington, Texas

Funeral services for Vilma Lavon Johnson, of Arlington, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Vilma Johnson

Vilma died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas. She was 86 years old.

Vilma was born Sept. 16, 1926, to Melvin and Edelia (Kleven) Westrum in Glenville. She grew up and attended school in Glenville graduating in 1944. At the age of 19 Vilma was united in marriage to Vernon Johnson on April 14, 1946, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Myrtle for several years, and Vilma worked as a checker at a grocery store. They later moved to Albert Lea where they were members at Zion Lutheran Church. Vilma worked in production at Wilson & Co. for 10 years and enjoyed cutting hair in her retirement. She spent time with her family and loved to paint. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and roller skating. In 1980 Vilma and Vernon moved to Mission, Texas. She was a loving wife and mother. Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her children Valan (Vickie) Johnson, Darcy (Pamela) Johnson and Robin (William) Otterbine; grandchildren Melissa Smith, Matthew (Nicole) Johnson, Mollie (Jeff) Monson, Joseph Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Michael Johnson and Nicholas McCord; eight great-grandchildren; sister Colleen Ingvaldson and many nieces and nephews.

Vilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Orville and Loren Westrum and sister Eldreth Lang.
