Avis E. Jorgenson, an Albert Lea native, announced the publication of her new book about the migrating Danes who came to southern Arizona. After five years of intensive research, the book narrates the stories of more than 70 Danish families who settled in Cochise, Graham, Pinal, Pima, Santa Cruz and Yuma counties in Arizona. These tales of life from 1860 to 1912 paint a vivid picture of the real Wild West.

“Early Danish Pioneers” narrates the history of Danish immigration in America. She writes of soldiers, miners, railroad workers, hotel and shop keepers, community builders, ranch families and the famous Wild West artist, Herman Wendelborg Hansen, who told his stories in water colors in the 1890s.
