Gary Schreiber, 74, Glenville

Funeral services for Gary G. Schreiber, age 74 of Glenville, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. David Schreiber will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County servicemens organizations.

Gary died on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

Gary George Schreiber was born on Nov. 27, 1938, in Wagner, S.D., the son of George and Mildred (Halter) Schreiber. Gary attended and graduated from Murray F. Tuley High School, Chicago, in 1956. While in high school he completed ROTC and then went on to enlist in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. Gary married Ruth Cornick, and the couple was blessed with three children, Scott, Sue and Tod. They later divorced. Gary spent the last 50 years with the love of his life Gloria. They were married on July 29, 1967, in Glenville, and they were also blessed with three children, Jason, Jennifer and Joe. Gary started his career in water treatment with Culligan International. He spent the last 19 years as a sales manager with Purolite. Gary was one of the most highly respected international water specialists in the industry. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, bowling, golf, listening to ’50s and ’60s music, watching sports on TV as well as his beloved westerns. Most of all he enjoyed working. One of the major highlights in the past couple of years was attending the NASCAR driving school at the Chicagoland Speedway.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria, mother Mildred Schreiber, Illinois; six children; Scott (Lorie) Schreiber, Sue (Dan) Young, Tod (Anna) Schreiber, Jason (Kristen) Schreiber, Jennifer (Steve) Cole, Joe Schreiber (Jeff Clune); 20 grandchildren: Barb (Jake), Nick (Melissa), Cody, Rayanna, Brielle, Jay (Amy), Brady (Taylor), Callie, Ryan, Stephanie, Benjamin (Lindsay), Blair (Jason), Bria, Brody, Bryce, Beau, Judson, Eliasson, Harley and Stevie; 13 great-grandchildren: Kenny, Marissa, MaKayla, Jeffrey, Jacob, Gisele, Alaysia, Jaylah, Alannah, Avery, Ella, Jaxson and Izabella; sisters, Sandy Bicker, Montana, and Marsha (Bill) Aiken, Illinois; brothers, Michael (Mary) Schreiber, Wisconsin, and Bob (Dina) Schreiber, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, George, and great-grandson, Dominic.
