Jeanette Herfendahl, 98, Fairmont

Jeanette Mae Herfendahl, age 98, of Fairmont, formerly of the Emmons area, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, with the Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch officiating.

Visitation will be at the church in Emmons, one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in rural Emmons.

Jeanette Mae Herfendahl was born on April 30, 1914, to Ben and Ella (Alberts) Westendorf at Buffalo Center, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Jeanette worked at the Cool Springs Canning Co. in Lake Mills for many years.

She married Alton Herfendahl on Dec. 18, 1937, in Northwood.

She was a homemaker all of her life. She was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother and great grandmother.

She enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking. She made lefsa for many years for stores and people in the area.

She loved having tea in the afternoon with family and friends.

She lived in Emmons most of her life before moving to Albert Lea. She had been a member of the Emmons Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Left to cherish her love and memory are her sons, Marlin (Sharon), Arden (Dawn Scott), Harold (Mary), Dale (Tammy); her daughter, Julie (Steve) Miller; grandchildren, Dave (Vicki) Herfendal, Greg (Wendy) Herfendal, Melanie (Dan) DeVries, Jennifer (Brian) Keogh, Eric Herfendal, Erin Herfendal, Crystal (Matt) Price, Cash Miller; great-grandchildren, Shawn Haugerud, Kelly, Haley and Ashley Herfendal, Keria and Conor Keough, Katie DeVries, Brayden and Alexsia Price; step-grandchildren, Mike (Dawn) Swalve, Kristi (Joel) Hantelman; step-great-grandchildren, Brittany, Zakk and Stephen DeVries, Ian Wildeman, Ferran and Paisley Hantelman; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons at birth; sisters, Minnie, Frances, Alice, Anna; brother, Bennie; and grandson, Tim Morris.
