United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women met Dec. 5, opening with Merle Stensrud on the piano with a Christmas medley.

Scripture and Christmas readings were given by Rose Hood, Judy Hargrave and JoAnn Seuser, members of the Martha Circle.

The Rev. Tom Biatek presided at the installation of officers for 2013. The two changes for the coming year will be President Gerry Horswell and Fern Urbatsch as chairwoman of education and interpretation mission coordinator.

The secretary’s report was given by JoAnn Seuser; she also shared a thank-you note from the United Preschool. Treasurer Ruth Vermedahl reported on the disbursement for 2012 and presented the budget for 2013.

Members of the Membership, Outreach and Nurture committee will be in charge of the group Sunday, Jan. 27. Volunteers were needed for assisting residents of the Good Samaritan with bingo on Dec. 26.

Following the meeting a luncheon was served by the Mary-Grace Circle, with church staff as their guest. Various Christmas keepsakes were displayed by group members.

The next meeting was planned for 9:30 a.m. Jan. 2, with the program by the Hope Circle and serving by three.

 

Austin Duplicate Bridge Club

The Austin Duplicate Bridge Club recorded the following results in recent play on Dec. 5. First place: Orrion Roisen and Dave Ring; second: Belva Fiala and Lu Schmitt; third: Bud Higgins and Loren Cleland; fourth: Vandy Newman and Gene Muchow.

The potluck Christmas party was planned for noon on Dec. 19.

Duplicate bridge is played each Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Village Cooperative, 2301 10th St., NW, Austin, located off Exit 77 from Interstate 90, two blocks north of Walmart. All bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.

 

St. John’s Auxiliary

St. John’s Auxiliary met at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 in St. John’s Chapel. President Carol Rask welcomed everyone.

The Glenville-Emmons High School performed many musical selections (Christmas songs and carols). They also sang “Happy Birthday” to the residents celebrating December birthdays.

Volunteer Coordinator Carla Reichel reported 981 hours for November, Day Care had 28 hours, four You & Me Clubs and one sing-along. She announced that Nancy Shampoeau-Wendler was named Volunteer of the Year 2012.

Diane Wichmann, activities director, announced the coming events for January 2013:

She announced that Shirley Lehman will be the new activities director beginning January 2013. Wichmann has taken another job within St. John’s.

Vice President Caroline Sorenson read the names of residents celebrating December birthdays.

Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were Ascension Lutheran, Salem Lutheran and Bethlehem Lutheran.

Refreshments were provided by the auxiliary and St. John’s Dietary Department.

The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
