AUSTIN — Employees at Austin hospital say a man who checked in as a patient tried to steal more than $1,000 in medical supplies.

Employees on Friday said Jeffrie Gean Eastman, 30, of Hector, checked in with stomach pains and was placed in an examination room to wait for help.

However, employees say Eastman filled his pockets and a bag with medical supplies according to the Mower County District Court complaint. Medical staff sent for a security guard, and an Austin police officer was sent to help, as well. The police report adds Eastman tried to steal hypodermic needles, saline solution and blood pressure cuffs, among other items.
