The United South Central wrestling team earned a record of 2-1 to earn third place at the Zumbrota/Mazeppa wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The Rebels defeated Dover-Eyota 42-32 in the first round, fell to No. 10 Barnesville 47-18 in the second round and rebounded with a 31-30 win over Wabasha Kellogg.

Against D-E, Matt Harpestad, Travis Brown and Colten Carlson lead the team by getting falls. Domonic Alger, Seth Olson and Logan Sonnek both won by forfeit to add six points each to the team score. In addition, Adam Knutson and Derek Herman both won by decision.

In the dual against Barnesville, Domonic Alger earned a win by decision. However, the Rebels weren’t able to register another win until Matt Harpestad at 182 pounds earned a fall. Colten Carlson and Logan Sonnek also defeated their opponents.

The score for USC’s final dual almost went down in the books as a tie. However, Rebels’ manager Mariah Legred corrected the scorers’ table of a scoring error, which gave USC a one-point win.

“I feel very fortunate to have great assistants and managers,” USC head wrestling coach Marcus Eytcheson said. “It’s easy to get caught up in each match and the emotional rollercoaster that goes along with each match.”
