The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees appointed Hanson to the post Tuesday morning. Hanson has served at Riverland since last August, temporarily filling in while MnSCU officials conducted a search for a replacement to former president Terry Leas, who left for a job in Washington State. Prior to Riverland, Hanson served nine years as provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at Northland Community and Technical College.

Hanson wasn’t allowed in the running for Riverland’s new presidency role per MnSCU rules. MnSCU officials have narrowed its search for Riverland’s new president to three candidates: Mary Davenport, vice president of academic and student affairs at Riverland, Annette Parker, system director for workforce education at the Kentucky Community & Technical College system, and Adenuga Atewologun, vice president of academic affairs at Prairie State College in Illinois.
