Margaret Konken, 91, Brownsdale

Margaret V. Konken, nee Schmidt, 91, of Brownsdale, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Adams Health Care Center. Margaret Vera Schmidt was born May 30, 1921, in Kiester to Otto and Henrietta (Lembke) Schmidt. She was a lifelong Brownsdale area resident. On July 20, 1941, Margaret married Frederick W. Konken at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham. Fred passed away on July 31, 2010. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale, she spent many hours volunteering at the church she loved.

She also enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and baking. She took great joy in being a homemaker.

Survivors include her three children, Betty (Nathan) Merten of Brownsdale, Eleanore (Darrel) Gordon of Adams and Donald (Leah) Konken of Austin; two grandchildren, Lisa (Dan) Landherr of Wyoming, Minn., and Paul Gordon of Brownsdale; four great-grandchildren Nathan, Tyrone, Mary and Karl Landherr of Wyoming; brother Alfred (June) Schmidt of Rockford, Ill.; brother-in-law Walter (Bernice) Konken of Austin; two sisters-in-law Grace (Mike) Miner of Winona and Florence Beyer of Green Leaf, Wis.; special grandchildren, Jessika Barahona of Owatonna, Marina Zapparoli of Italy, Irene Bernal of Spain, Miguel Spada of Argentina, Ahmet Ayca of Turkey, Alican Ayca of New York and Enith Espino of Panama; special great-grandchildren Attina Earl of Austin and Matthew Earl of Owatonna; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Henrietta (Lembke) Schmidt; her husband Frederick W. Konken; an infant son; granddaughters, Elizabeth Rose and Marianne Margaret Konken; two infant brothers; and sister and brother-in-law Frebert and Marie Ehmke.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with the Rev. Jeffery Sage officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
