Marriage is about what children need

Published 9:17am Tuesday, February 12, 2013

If you care about the future of traditional marriage in Minnesota you need to call Gov. Mark Dayton, state Rep. Shannon Savick and state Sen. Dan Sparks immediately and tell them to block any attempts to redefine marriage in Minnesota.

A group called MUFAF — Minnesotans United for All Families — which spent a fortune to defeat the marriage protection amendment in Minnesota last fall, has hired six high-powered lobbyists to pressure our representatives into redefining marriage in Minnesota. Money is pouring into their coffers from New York and the Hollywood left.

Gov. Dayton believes that the defeat of the marriage protection amendment proves that Minnesotans are ready to embrace changing the God-given definition of marriage between one man and one woman, even though the amendment passed in 75 out of 87 counties!

Most fair-minded Minnesotans do not believe that the Legislature should change our law to legalize same sex “marriages.” That being said, we can no longer sit on the sidelines and allow it to happen!

Do not be intimidated by those who wrongly accuse us of being bigots, racists or homophobic. Marriage is not about what adults want, but what children need! The sexual complementarity of having both a mother and a father is vital for the good of children and of society as a whole. Natural law demands it, and God, not government nor even the church, has defined it.

  1. From the American Academy of Pediatrics:
“Children who are born to or adopted by 1 member of a same-sex couple deserve the security of 2 legally recognized parents. Therefore, the American Academy of Pediatrics supports legislative and legal efforts to provide the possibility of adoption of the child by the second parent or coparent in these families.”

    From the Minnesota chapter:
“As an advocate for children and their families, MN-AAP stands by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ position of the right of every child and family to the legal, financial, and psychosocial security that results from having legally recognized parents who are committed to each other and to the welfare of their children.”

And I, along with many others stand for the right to leave the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

In a statement released earlier this week, Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago said, “A proposal to change this truth about marriage in civil law is less a threat to religion than it is an affront to human reason and the common good of society. It means we are all to pretend to accept something we know is physically impossible. The Legislature might just as well repeal the law of gravity.”

  4. If and when marriage equality is passed in Minnesota, religious organizations will be under obligation to perform or recognize same-sex marriages. The fun thing about the 1st Amendment is that you don’t get to make laws that discriminate against people based on your religion.

And if they don’t, is the state going to arrest them, throw them in jail and close the door of their churches? Sounds a bit like totalatarianism to me Lisa but then this is exactly the kind of “governing” that has come to us under the Obama regime. You will have to take your discrimination argument to God as he was the one who gave us the definition of marriage.

It sure is funny how liberals cite the Constitution when it suits their perception of an issue they hold dear. Meanwhile, king Obama has done more to dismantle it then any president in history. His attack on the First Amendment concerning the HHS mandate is unprecendented. Now he has turned his constitution mangling sights on the Second Amendment as well. His cabinet has been filled with people who hate the U.S. Constitution because it is the only thing that stands between them and their desire to destroy freedom. P.S. I didn’t get this from “Faux news”. I am living it everyday, as is every other American citizen.

Oh, and attacking traditional marriage and the family is the ultimate attack on freedom.

Lisa, your Feb.17th comment reads as follows: “religious organizations WILL BE under obligation to perform or recognize same sex marriages.” Did you leave the word “no” out by accident? I see in your Feb. 20 comment that you added the word “NO”. I was responding to the comment as it was first presented on February 17.
