A commercial fishing pickup fell through the ice of Fountain Lake Monday afternoon across from Pioneer Park, a few car lengths away from already posted thin ice signs.

The area the truck fell through was close to the lake’s aerators.

A group of at least eight men worked for at least four hours to pull the truck underneath the water to shore.

Using an auger they drilled a series of holes in the ice, guiding a rope close to the shore. Then they cut out a hole in the ice large enough for the truck to be pulled through.

How the truck fell through the ice is not clear. It is also unclear whether anyone was inside the vehicle at the time.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office said Allen’s Tow ’N Travel towed the vehicle out of the lake.
