Albert Lea graduate Jenna Christensen and the Gustavus Adolphus College girls’ hockey team won it’s 18th straight game on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to stay in the hunt for the Division III crown.

The Golden Gusties have been golden all season. Gustavus is 27-0-1 overall, 18-0 in the conference and 18-0 at home. The Gusties outscored their opponents 97-32 so far this season.

“We have a really strong senior class,” Christensen said. “We’ve been pretty determined to get to the national tournament. I can’t credit my teammates enough.”

Christensen is a senior captain, and she is tied for second on the team with 12 assists. She is also sixth on the team with six goals.

Christensen said playing at Albert Lea helped prepare her for the next level.

“There’s a high level of competition, and the pressure is comparable to college,” she said.

Up to the beginning of the 2012-13 season, Christiensen had played in 84 games with 159 assists and 24 points.

The Gusties have enjoyed success over the Christensen’s career with four straight conference titles. However, Gustavus has lost in the NCAA finals the last three years.

In the semifinal round of the NCAA tournament, Gustavus will face off against Elmira (22-5-1) at 8 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have not played each other during the regular season. The Soaring Eagles took down Bowdin (21-4-2) in the first round of the tournament.
