Rebel duo qualifies for the semifinals

ST. PAUL — A pair of wrestlers from United South Central qualified for the state semifinals on Friday.

Dylan Herman was the first Rebel to make the cut when he pinned Evan Woitalla from Pierz in the quarterfinal round in 2:33. In the semifinal round on Saturday, Dylan (37-3) will wrestle Harvey Friederichs of Chatfield (45-2)

Also qualifying for one of the final four spots in the state was Colten Carlson. After Carlson beat Noah Pesola of New York Mills by a major decision in the first round, he escaped a close match with Vince Johnson of Windom/Mountain Lake in the quarterfinal round. Carlson (38-3) earned the win by a 3-2 decision, and he will wrestle Patrick Rooney (41-0) of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the semifinals.

Also competing for USC in the quarterfinal round was Derek Herman. Derek  beat Cole Hinnen of Minneota with a 6-1 decision in the first round, but he fell to Sibley East’s Hunter Retzlaff with a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals.
