Tale of grocery stores cherished

Published 9:19 am Tuesday, March 12, 2013

My name is Lea Shalhoob and I live in Bismarck, N.D. Tonight I was doing some research online and came across an article that former Albert Lea Tribune writer Ed Shannon wrote in December 2010 titled “An Era of Grocery Stores.”

The last picture is of my grandfather’s store, Victor Shalhoob. I was thrilled to see a picture of the building I had only heard about growing up. I have sent the article on to many family members, including three of Vic’s sons. My grandpa passed away in 2000, and any time I hear or find new information on the family’s past is very exciting to me. The article is well-written and offers a great insight into the past and my grandparents’ past.

Warm memories are being shared again through the family tonight because of what Ed has written. It’s important to gather and share all the stories for Vic’s four great-grandchildren. I hope to be able to print the article and of course the picture off to add to the family history scrapbook that I am forever working on.
