Funeral services for Bruce W. Kermes, 83, of Albert Lea, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Jim Rushton will officiate. Burial will be at First Lutheran cemetery in Glenville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Bruce died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at his home.

Bruce Wayne Kermes was born on Dec. 28, 1929, in Oakland Township. He grew up in rural Oakland and graduated from Austin High School. On Dec. 24, 1951, Bruce was united in marriage to Bonnie Huemoeller in Hayward. Bruce worked for Wilson & Co. and also farmed. He worked at HyVee in his retirement. Bruce was a member of First Lutheran Church of Glenville, the Elks Lodge and the Sunset Saddle Club. He enjoyed horses and raised quarter horses. He also liked fishing and deer hunting. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children, Steven (Shirley) Kermes and Julie (Marty) Vande Kamp; grandchildren, Nicole, Elisa, Joshua, Valerie, Lucas, James and Veronica; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Reagan, Ethan, Kiera and Kaden; sister, Miriam Wangen; sisters-in-law, Lois (Ward) Bergene, Pat Huemoeller and Alice Huemoeller; and many nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Kermes, sister, Betty (Winfred) Wangen, brother, Jack (Lucetta) Kermes and his brother-in-law, Wallace Wangen.
