Chamber orchestra’s concert is Sunday

Enjoy works by Bach, John Rutter, Brock Besse, Mack Wilberg and others when the Southeastern Chamber Orchestra performs its final concert of its season at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The concert will be at First Lutheran Church, and the orchestra will be joined by members of the First Lutheran Church choir and the Albert Lea Community Chorus for an evening of sacred music of styles ranging from classic to contemporary. Special guest artists are Paul and Kristin Johnson and Brian Koser.

Tickets are available in advance at First Lutheran Church, Marshall Street Music and from orchestra members. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and free for students high school age and younger. At the door, tickets are an additional $2. Refreshments will be served after the concert.

Friday

• The Brue Crew hosts a burger night fundraiser to benefit their Relay for Life team from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Tickets are $8 at the door or from team members. Baskets can be a hamburger, pulled pork or chicken tenders served with fries and beverage of choice.

• Albert Lea High School students present “Our Town” at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

• A comedy show featuring Michael Thorne and Justin Caesar will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

 

Saturday

• The Alden American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee. Cost is $4.

• The Fountain Lake 5 and Tiger Trot begin at 9 a.m. at Brookside Education Center.

• A Community Sewing Day will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center at Skyline Plaza. Bring a sack lunch and sewing supplies; beverages and cookies will be provided.

• Riverland Community College students will perform free safety, wear and maintenance checks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea campus. Itemized reports will be given to car owners along with recommendations, but no repairs will be performed. There will be free hot dogs and refreshments.

• Worth Brewing Co. in Northwood hosts is annual Spring Bock Fest from noon to 11 p.m. There will be beer and food specials, live music and a crowning of a bock king and queen.

• Eddie’s Bar in Albert Lea will host a beer bash fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. to benefit the Minnesota chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

• Albert Lea High School students present “Our Town” at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

 

Sunday

• The Masonic Lodge will host an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes amaranth pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice, milk and coffee. Funds raised go to scholarships and local causes.

• The Albert Lea American Legion is sponsoring the Gordy and Debbie Show at 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 in advance at Nelson’s Market Place, Hy-Vee and the Legion, or $12 at the door.

• First Lutheran Church hosts concert at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $12 at the door.
