Dane Bay still has ice

Published 4:11 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2013

As of Tuesday afternoon, ice remains in the eastern side of Dane Bay, said Bill Malepsy. He expected the last of it to melt tonight or Wednesday morning.

Malepsy, an Albert Lea barber, checks the ice of Fountain Lake every spring to see whether it has melted away completely, then records the date.

The records date back a century, and the longest the ice has lasted is April 30.
