Should firearms dealers be liable?Published 9:00am Wednesday, April 3, 2013
Just to set the record straight I consider myself an independent but anti far right. I don’t know how anyone can vote Republican after what the George Bush-Dick Cheney administration did to this country. No administration has ever hurt this country as much as they did. If you are unaware of what they did to this country, then you shouldn’t be allowed to vote, in my opinion. I also feel that if a firearms dealer sells a firearm to an individual and that individual goes out and commits a notorious crime using that firearm, the dealer selling the firearm should be held somewhat responsible.
I don’t see any difference between this and a bar owner selling a drink to an individual and that individual goes out kills a bunch of people, and the bar gets sued. This is why liability insurance has risen drastically on bars. If you have a party at your house and the person leaves and causes an accident by being under the influence, you can be found liable. So what would be the difference if you sold a firearm to someone who goes out and uses it to commit a crime?
I would like to hear what Elaine Hart feels about a law like this. I would also like to hear from a firearms dealer who lost a son or daughter to some mass murderer using an assault weapon like the ones we have read about lately. I would like to hear how they don’t think background checks on people buying firearms is completely unnecessary.
In Elaine’s letter on March 24 she dwelt a lot on my illustration of stopping an intruder with a single shot to an intruder with a .22 firearm to his Adam’s apple. This was used to let people know how ridiculous it sounds when someone says they need an assault weapon for their protection. I know the firearms advocates had a field day talking about that at my expense. This is good, we need to get as many people as we can to talk about background checks on firearms sales. It doesn’t seem as though the politicians are talking about it. If you would look into how much money the firearms contributed to the Republican Party in the last election, you will no doubt know where the holdup is at. I want to thank all the ones who called and gave me an atta-boy for my letters. I even enjoyed talking to the ones who owned an assault weapon. I really enjoyed getting a postcard from a state representative.
He spent several years fighting the Republicans and firearms lobbyists. He also gave me an atta-boy and told me to keep up the effort to get background checks on anyone buying a firearm. Thank you. I want to thank you to for taking the time to read my letter. I also want you to know that each and every one of you are entitled to my opinion. Do you think any of them far-right loons have a sense of humor?
