Tiger wrestlers compete at Rochester

The Albert Lea Area Wrestling Club continues to have success at all levels. Several young wrestlers competed at two separate state tournaments in Rochester: the Minnesota USA Folkstyle State Tournament in March and the Northland Youth Wrestling Association State Tournament in April.

Eighteen Albert Lea wrestlers competed at the folkstyle tournament and nine placed. Three wrestlers made it to the finals.

Zach Glazier won his third state title, and Garrett Aldrich and Michael Olson earned second place. Nic Cantu and Derek Samudio captured third; Kail Wynia, Caleb Talamantes and Alex Bledsoe placed fourth and Ryliegh Bure took sixth.

At the NYWA state tournament, 23 Albert Lea wrestlers qualified and 15 placed. Albert Lea brought home five state champions: Nick Korman, Brody Ignaszewski, Cole Glazier, Nic Cantu and Garrett Aldrich. Glazier, Cantu, and Aldrich also are two-time state champions. Runner-ups included Caleb Talamantes, Brody Nielsen, and Blake Simon. Logan Davis, Zach Glazier and Dedoch Chan wrestled back for third place, while Kail Wynia took fourth and Michael Olson, Griffin Studier and Brady Nielsen placed fifth.
