The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Seeking Outstanding Senior Citizens 2013: Let’s salute the super volunteering that a man or a woman 70 years or older has contributed within the past five years. Nominations are available at the Senior Resources Office, Skyline Plaza, 1659 W. Main St., Albert Lea. Be sure to send them in by July 8 to the Freeborn County Fair Office, OSC, Box 128, Albert Lea or call Roger Lonning at 507-391-0345.

Freeborn County Environmental Services: A variety of tasks are available for volunteers at the Hazardous Waste Collection sites: open paint cans, direct traffic, record names, help unload vehicles. July and August dates are listed on the Freeborn County website or call 377-5186 to get more information.

Volunteer options around Minnesota: With the click of a mouse, you can find meaningful volunteer opportunities for friends or family anywhere in Minnesota. Just go to www.mnseniorcorps.org to see videos, read heartwarming stories of real volunteer experiences or scan the latest research on the health benefits of volunteering. A special high-tech feature of the website is its geolocator — a program that automatically detects the county of a web visitor and offers a direct connection to those programs.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
